Today, I want to share with you my composition prepared specially for Hinamatsuri celebrated on 3rd March in Japan. Many of you may already know about this festival but allow me to inform those who have not heard of it before. Hinamatsuri can be described as ‘Doll festival’, a day celebrated for girl’s health, prosperity and happiness. It is also the occasion to herald in Peach blossom season. On this day most families, with daughters, arrange wonderful displays of Hina dolls dressed in colourful and beautiful kimonos together with splendid miniature Peach blossom trees.
To mark the Peach blossom season, as well as the spirit of celebrating young girls, nearly everything on display in the shops are in various shades of pink. I and my sister hold the memories of Hinamatsuri day celebrations, with our parents, warmly in our hearts. With this in mind I want to share with you my Ikebana, Japanese art of flower arrangements, using pink Genista, pink Tulips and twigs. I came across a lovely flower stall in Ealing while in search of pink flowers.
I hope you like this Ikebana composition for you.
